We'll guide you in choosing the right hockey program for your child, whether they're just beginning or looking to sharpen their skills. Whether it's through a beginner's clinic, a learn-to-play program, or a more advanced league, we'll find the best fit for your child's age, skill level, and goals.

Periodically, we host Try Hockey for Free events. Try Hockey for Free is an excellent way to try out the sport of hockey without having to make the investment into equipment. There’s no experience necessary – we provide the instructors and the equipment for you to use!

The Rochester Hockey Club's 8 & Under Hockey program is the perfect starting point for a child's hockey journey.

Learn to Play (Level 1 - "Snake Bites" & Girls Learn to Play) - Ages 4-8

Beginner Hockey
Recommended as the first step for beginning hockey players that have completed a Learn to Skate session and have a solid base of fundamental skills
One (1)-50 minute skate each week on Saturdays at 10:00 - 10:50am.
Suburban Ice instructional staff will run each session, with the assistance of parent volunteers.
For the parent coaches, the on-ice sessions are part of a season-long coaching and education program.
The pre-requisite for coaches is desire and commitment - no previous coaching experience necessary. Skates, helmet, gloves and stick required. USA Hockey Membership, Background Screen, SafeSport Training and 8U Age Module will also be required.
Jersey and pair of hockey socks included.

DETAILS & REGISTRATION

Mites | Ages 6-8
September - March

Teams will be selected by Suburban Staff
Advanced players will play against other Advanced players and same for Intermediate players
Game Day Format: half-ice (red line to goal line) using the board dividers, 4 v 4 using two - 22 minute periods, small nets and goaltenders, referees and scorekeepers
Two to three 50-minute skates each week.
Fridays between 5:30-7:45pm, Sundays before 2pm and every other Saturday in the afternoon usually.
Sundays are "Game Day"!
Jersey and pair of hockey socks provided.

DETAILS & REGISTRATION

Mini Mites | Ages 5-8
September - March

Program serves as an introduction to "team" play with practice sessions and small-ice games.
We strongly believe that keeping the players active and moving on the ice, having fun, and building confidence is essential.
Games will be cross-ice which are played width-wise in the end zones of the rink.
Two - 50 minute skates each week. Enhances the fundamental skill development of each player.
Teams will rotate ice times that are on Tuesdays at 5:45pm or 6:45pm and Saturdays at 11:00am or 12:00pm. Saturday is "Game Day"!
Suburban Ice instructional staff will run each session at the beginning of the season with the assistance of parent volunteer coaches.
Coaches requirements: USA Hockey Membership, Background Screen, SafeSport Certification and 8U Age Module.
Jersey and a pair of hockey socks included.

Tier 1 Hockey

Tier 2/3 Hockey

Our Hockey Operations Manager will provide a recommendation for your child's next step after completing each step of the 8-and-Under program for further guidance. Upon graduating the 8-and-Under program, your child can join our Tier 3 program (Vipers), or try out for one of our Tier 1/Tier 2 hockey teams: the Rattlers (Tier 2) at Suburban Ice Rochester, or the HoneyBaked Hockey Club Tier 1 program at Suburban Ice Farmington Hills.

Additionally, Suburban Hockey School offers year-round clinics for further development, from skating to shooting and everything in between.
